For Your Consideration 2011: “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides”

Every year that there is a “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, it gets nominated for Academy Awards. Each year the nominations get less and less and each year the films never win (save for “Dead Man’s Chest”). Not much will change this year, I am afraid. “The Curse of the Black Pearl” had four nominations for Johnny Depp, Makeup, and Sound Editing/Mixing, “Dead Man’s Chest” garnered nominations for Art Direction and Sound Editing/Sound Mixing and became the only film take win an Academy Award (for Best Visual Effects) and “At World’s End” only gained a nomination for Makeup. Now, in 2011, unless “On Stranger Tides” is completely snubbed, the film has only one place to go, and that is up. None of the categories it is considered for would be a stretch to have it nominated, but with the dwindling Oscar acknowledgement for the franchise, there may be little hope for the film.
