For Your Consideration 2013: All Is Lost

J.C. Chandor is no stranger to the Academy Awards, having garnered a nomination for his writing work on “Margin Call”. Now he lands in the directing chair, bringing this one man show to fruition. Robert Redford stars as the sailor lost at sea after his sailboat hits a dropped freighter full of shoes. Determined to survive, Redford delivers one of the most powerful performances of the year and all without hardly uttering a word. Once you see “All Is Lost”, you understand the caliber of the film and how insanely designed it is for the Oscars. I will be completely abashed if Redford does not get a nomination for this role and would almost consider his spot a lock in the Lead Actor category, just because he’s a veteran and the film screams Oscar fodder. With one Directing win and one Honorary Award, the man has had his fair share of the limelight, but there’s no reason he won’t be nominated this year and I look forward to seeing him at the ceremony. As far as the rest of the film, I suppose it’s possible for the film to land in Best Visual Effects or any of the Sound categories, as it does deal a fair share in the ocean, above and under the water.
