Many would say that “Saving Mr. Banks” was robbed in many of the categories of the Academy Awards this year, including not making the list for Best Picture and for Emma Thompson and Tom Hanks not making the cut for their respected acting awards. However, the one place the film does show up is Best Original Score, with composer Thomas Newman at the helm. Sadly, the score fails in comparison to the other films nominated and with “Gravity” having the gravitas that P.L. Travers speaks of in the screenplay, there’s little chance of Newman winning his first Oscar. However, this does mark his twelfth Academy Award nomination and earns “Saving Mr. Banks” its only nomination.
