Oscars Watch: 2014 San Diego Film Critics Society Awards

San Diego steps outside the box, giving most of their wins to “Nightcrawler” and those involved with it, including director and writer Dan Gilroy, lead actor Jake Gyllenhaal, supporting actress Rene Russo, and cinematography Rovert Elswit. Although most of these will not carry over to the Oscars, Jake Gyllenhaal may be edging his way more and more to a nomination. Mark Ruffalo gets his first Best Supporting Actor win for “Foxcatcher” while the support for Marion Cotillard continues. First win for “The Boxtrolls” in Best Animated Feature while “The Grand Budapest Hotel” has all but taken the Best Production Design award come the Oscars.

BEST PRODUCTION DESIGN: Anna Pinnock and Adam Stockhausen (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”)
BEST SCORE: James Newton Howard (“Nightcrawler”)
BODY OF WORK: Willem Dafoe (“The Fault in Our Stars” / “The Grand Budapest Hotel” / “John Wick” / “A Most Wanted Man” / “Nymphomaniac Vol. II”)
