2016 Oscar Season: Chris Rock to Host 88th Annual Academy Awards

Nope, it’s not 2005. But yes, that’s the last time we saw Chris Rock host the Academy Awards. That year, “Million Dollar Baby” and Clint Eastwood took the top prizes. It’s no surprise that producers David Hill (Emmy®-winning live television producer) and Reginald Hudlin (Oscar®-nominated producer-director) are bringing back a previous host, as this happens quite often. In fact, Ellen DeGeneres, who hosted in 2014, had previously hosted in 2007. Other reprisals include Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Martin, and Jon Stewart. Every few years, some producers will think outside the box, giving us Seth MacFarlane, or co-hosts Anne Hathaway and James Franco, and even Hugh Jackman. Last year was Neil Patrick Harris, and although he did just fine, there was nothing quite out of the ordinary. Chris Rock is a great comedian in his own right, but facing a room like the Academy Awards is not his strong-suit. However, as it always goes, it could be worse.

We will see Chris Rock take the stage on Sunday, February 28th, 2016 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, CA.
