Oscar Season: Washington DC Area Film Critics Association Awards – Spotlight

“Spotlight” continues to steamroll the critics awards, with George Miller once again taking Best Director for “Mad Max: Fury Road.” The funny thing is, I could totally see this happening at the Oscars, giving the major prize to a film like “Spotlight” while honoring a tried and true director that deserves it like George Miller. For as much as people talked about “Mad Max: Fury Road” this year, it should be honored. Leonardo DiCaprio grabs his first win on his own (tied with Paul Dano once already) and Idris Elba and Netflix’s “Beasts Of No Nation” is honored for the first time, which I also hope can translate into an Oscar nomination. Even Jóhann Jóhannsson gets acknowledged for his work on the score of “Sicario,” which I also hope gets honored at the Oscars.
