OscarsⓇ Nominated Role: Leonardo DiCaprio portrays Hugh Glass, a 19th-century American frontiersman who is left for dead by his comrades after being mauled by a bear during a winter expedition.

During the 2013-2014 Oscar season, many thought it was Leonardo DiCaprio’s year to win, for his leading performance in “The Wolf Of Wall Street.” It was such a different role for the actor, who had been involved in Oscar for over 20 years at that point. So when Matthew McConaughey won for “Dallas Buyers Club,” the internet went crazy, creating countless memes featuring DiCaprio and the fact that he went another year without winning. Well now he’s apart of “The Revenant,” that not only garnered tons of Oscar nominations, but also won DiCaprio numerous critics awards and even the Golden Globe for the same category. He plays Hugh Glass, the frontiersman fighting for his life, with a brutal honesty that is painful to watch, just because he wear the anguish and tribulation so well. DiCaprio sheds his “pretty boy” demeanor that some feel he had become known for, and gets deep into the dirt of this role.

Who’s his competition? The Oscar has never been closer to Leo’s reach than this year, having won across the board so far. With no specific competition in his way, the closest would likely be Eddie Redmayne (“The Danish Girl”) who won last year and would prove a huge upset to win or Michael Fassbender, who was nominated despite his film not getting any real sort of praise. But I can only imagine what the memes will say if Leo doesn’t win this year. Safe bet, this is Leo’s to lose.

Previous nominations? This is the sixth Academy Award nomination for Leonardo DiCaprio. He was previously nominated for:
