Theatrical Releases: The Magnificent Seven & Storks

THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN || September 23rd, 2016

themagnificentseven2016-poster THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN || The Magnificent Seven is the Western remake, retelling the story from the 1960 original, with an ensemble cast that rivals any blockbuster from the summer. Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Vincent D’Onofrio, and Byung-Hun Lee among others face off against the villainous Peter Sarsgaard. The original saw Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, and James Coburn teaming together. The trailers for the film have been awesome, cut in a way that brought the music and action set pieces to life. Denzel looks on his A game and rightfully so across from his director Antoine Fuqua who brought him Training Day and his Academy Award.
storks-poster STORKS || Storks will enter the box office landscape at a particularly good time in my opinion, with little in the way of animated fare these past few months. Sure, The Secret Life Of Pets, Finding Dory, and Kubo and the Two Strings are still mulling around, but Kubo was already over a month ago, leaving an entire 4 weeks of absolutely no new animated fare. You can count The Wild Life if you like, but it did not seem to quite stack up to the aforementioned films as was not something my toddler and sought out. Following their hugely successful release of The LEGO Movie, Warner Animation Group will not get even close to $69 million that LEGO brought in, but I do believe it will get parents and their kids into the theaters this weekend. It comes from director Nicholas Stoller, who brought you Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising earlier this year as well as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To Greek, and is also known for writing The Muppets with Jason Segel. That being said, the animated film is about the storks having moved on from delivering babies, but when there’s one last one to deliver, the misfits take off to get the job done. The voice cast is lead by Andy Samberg, so overall, this will be a must-see for my 3-year-old and I.
