New Trailer: Dunkirk – Official Main Trailer

DUNKIRK || Christopher Nolan returns to the director’s chair, following the Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar, with the WWII action-drama, Dunkirk. Set during the 26th of May to the 4th June in 1940, this was relatively early in the war. “As part of the Battle of France on the Western Front, the Battle of Dunkirk was the defense and evacuation of British and Allied forces in Europe.” Having flanked the Allied forces, the Germans were advancing on this particular beach during the evacuation, potentially threatening any of them from getting to Britain. Nolan takes on this subject matter with great visuals and vivid detail, to which he co-wrote, produced, and directed.

Dunkirk was shot on IMAX 65 mm and 65 mm large format film stock and is the first feature film to ever use IMAX cameras in a hand-held capacity. Nolan’s cinematographer for Interstellar, Hoyte van Hoytema (Spectre, Her, & The Fighter) took on the task. Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branaugh, Cillian Murphy, and James D’Arcy all star, with Nolan taking to the sea, land, and air with a mostly dialogue-free screenplay. Hans Zimmer is providing the score. With the outstanding trailer out today, what this is starting to spell for me is that Nolan and his WWII have a strong chance of being a big contender at this year’s Academy Awards if it is even half as good as Nolan’s previous work.
