HONEYMOON on HULU

Before Harry Treadaway’s stint on “Penny Dreadful” but after Rose Leslie’s appearance on “Game Of Thrones,” these two actors were in a film together where they played newlyweds, Bea and Paul, who head out to the middle of nowhere for their honeymoon. When Paul finds Bea naked in the woods after she’s gone missing, Bea starts acting distant and strange, with Paul finding marks on her body. A great horror film with wonderful allegories for relationships in general, the two leads elevate this otherwise B-movie to something that is definitely worth watching, both proving that they are extremely talented actors who I hope will eventually find huge success.

“Risk” is director Laura Poitras’ follow-up to Academy Award nominated documentary “Citizenfour.” This one dives into the controversy of WikiLeaks and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange. Acting in one of the Oscar nominated films this year, “The Big Sick,” actress Zoe Kazan has had her share of high profile roles. But one of her lesser known roles in “The Exploding Girl” sees her playing a young girl home from college who suffer from epilepsy. Speaking of lesser known roles, Nicole Kidman once starred as a Russian mail order bride in “Birthday Girl,” a thriller starring Ben Chaplin and Vincent Cassel. Another film about a couple, this one partaking in an affair, takes a minimalist approach to story-telling, taking place all in hotel rooms, where the sneak off to have sex in the aptly titled “28 Hotel Rooms.” A big contender in the indie scene this year was “Good Time” starring Robert Pattinson, which was described as a career highlight for Pattinson, reminiscent of early and gritty Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro. With J.J. Abrams taking over some of the “Star Wars” films, it’s easy to forget that Abrams was originally the one that brought back the “Star Trek” series for the newer generations, starring Chris Pine, Zoe Saldana, and Zachary Quinto in the leading roles. Before he was flying around as Poe Dameron in the “Star Wars” films, Oscar Isaac was working in smaller films, including “The Two Faces Of January,” where he becomes the object of a married woman’s affections, starring Kirsten Dunst and Viggo Mortensen. One of the best films of last year was the return of Steven Soderbergh to the heist genre, introducing the world to a comedic Daniel Craig in “Logan Lucky” starring Channing Tatum and the villain of “Star Wars” himself, Adam Driver (aka Kylo Ren). One of the best superhero films of last year was Patty Jenkins’ “Wonder Woman” starring Gal Gadot as the title character and Chris Pine (who we just mentioned is the star of “Star Trek”) as her love interest. The No Man’s Land sequence of this film was one of the best things out of any film last year.
