THE EQUALIZER II

With a returning cast of Denzel Washington, Melissa Leo, and Bill Pullman as well as director Antoine Fuqua, “The Equalizer II” looks like formidable sequel to the original, which was based off an ’80s TV show with the same title. Denzel reprises the role of the high level government assassin, this time avenging the death of his friend and confidant played by Melissa Leo. In a very Liam Neeson in “Taken” kind of way, Denzel’s special set of skills allows him to take out large volumes of bad guys as he works his way to the top of the chain. The thing that set the original “Equalizer” film apart from other action movies were the amazingly choreographed fight sequences which also involved a “bullet time” element where everything was slowed down. Although Chloe Moretz is not returning, as her story arc was pretty wrapped up by the end of the original, Pedro Pascal (“Kingsman: The Golden Circle”) joins the cast as an old friend of Denzel’s and current government employee. With a great use of DJ Khaled’s “Go Hard” featuring Kanye West an T-Pain along with lines like “they killed my friend, so I’m gonna kill each and every one of them, and the only disappointment… is that I only get to do it once,” the trailer is chill inducing, with Denzel at his action star finest.
