After three weeks at number one, the unstoppable giant that is “Avengers: Infinity War” has been toppled by fellow Marvel associate “Deadpool 2.” Opening to $125.5 million, which is actually a bit lower than the $130-140 million opening that many were predicting, the “Deadpool” sequel captured a few record breaking scores including biggest Thursday preview for an R-Rated film and biggest opening day for an R-Rated film with $53.3 million on Friday. It finished behind the original for best three-day weekend box office and best debut for a 20th Century Fox film. In it’s fourth weekend, “Avengers: Infinity War” added $29.4 million to its $595 million plus total domestic box office. Fellow newcomer “Book Club” finished third with $13.5 million, making back its estimated $10 million production budget within the first weekend. “Life Of The Party” and “Breaking In” rounded out the Top Five, both in their second weekends.

The Will Arnett lead talking dog movie “Show Dogs” finished outside the Top Five at Number 6 with $6 million while the next new release of the week, Wim Wenders’ documentary titled “Pope Francis: A Man Of His Word” finished ten spots down at Number 16 with $0.5 million. The holdovers “Overboard,” “A Quiet Place,” “Rampage,” and “I Feel Pretty” rounded out the Top Ten, with the Amy Schumer comedy barely nudging out the Ruth Bader Ginsburg documentary “RBG” by less than a few thousand dollars. “A Wrinkle In Time” took a huge spill, dropping from Number 11 to Number 25. Losing more than 1,750 theater screens, that does not come as much surprise. Next week, it will likely fall off the list as it approaches a home video release in the next few weeks. The biggest drop off the Top 25 this week was “Bad Samaritan” in its third week, falling from Number 18 to Number 52 after losing almost 1,500 screens. It had a -96.9% box office drop, making it the biggest percentage drop of the week as well. The per theater average winner this weekend was the re-release of “2001: A Space Odyssey” with a $50,690 per theater average in only four theaters, coming in at Number 22 on the list and beating out “Avengers: Infinity War,” which held a three-week streak. “Deadpool 2” came in second with a $28,859 per theater average in 3,349 theaters.

Next week, “Solo: A Star Wars Story” will make sure “Deadpool 2” does not get a second week on the throne, looking at its own $120-$140 million opening, ultimately pushing “Avengers: Infinity War” to Number 3. Possibly look for “I Can Only Imagine” and “The Rider” to fall off the list along with “A Wrinkle In Time,” with newcomer “How To Talk To Girls At Parties” likely to move in.
