Theatrical Releases: The Equalizer 2 & Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
THE EQUALIZER 2 || Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington are back with the first sequel of Denzel’s career. In “The Equalizer 2,” he returns to his role of Robert McCall, a retired CIA black ops operative who turns to vigilante work, using his special set of skills to stop men that hurt women and children, in particular. In the original film, he was stopping an organization from exploiting women, including Chloe Grace Moretz. This time around, it’s personal, as his friend, played by Melissa Leo, is brutally murdered. He sets out to get answers and ultimately get revenge, delivering one of the most bad ass lines in movie history: “I’m going to kill each and every one of you and the only disappointment is that I only get to do it once.”
MAMMA MIA! HERE WE GO AGAIN || Amanda Seyfried is back for “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” the sequel to the popular musical that used ABBA songs to tell a story. Seyfried is pregnant on the Greek island of Kalokairi, exactly where her mother (originally played by Meryl Streep) was when she was pregnant with her. Now, all the characters from the first film are returning, as they reminisce through flashbacks of the life lived by Streep’s character when she was young. Lily James joins the cast as the young Streep and Cher enters the picture as Streep’s mother, aka “Grandma.” How they can make a sequel to a film that already used all the ABBA songs is beyond me, but kudos for putting Lily James and Amanda Seyfried in more things.
